Hi! I’m Johnie. I’m a self-taught human interface designer & front end developer based in Sigtuna, Sweden. I have a passion for pixel perfect, minimal & easy to use interfaces. The simple act of creating makes me happy, and I’m not doing it for any other reason than that. Let me tell you my story ›

My story

a brief history

The story begins about 1 ago. You clicked a button, or you tapped on a slab of glass, and you wound up here. Now that I have about 25% of your attention. You’re thinking about checking Facebook again, what’s new on Twitter, who is having kebab for lunch again or maybe the growing pile of work on your desk.

I am someone who aspires to positively change the world someday, I drink coffee like its religious holy water, and may have an unhealthy obsession with my work. But creating is not just a job for me, it’s a passion. My mission in life is to create awesome things and enjoy each moment of it.

I see myself as a hybrid designer-developer and a humble know-it-all, who likes to read about entrepreneurship to my morning coffee, advanced JavaScript Design Patterns at day, and about leadership at night.

I try to make the websites I design and build as simple and intuitive to use as possible whilst still having a unique aesthetic appeal. I specialise in responsive front-end design, HTML/CSS and JavaScript. I also believe in cutting edge web technologies, and care for semantics and accessibility. This means I usually build the things I design, however I don’t build things designed by others.

You have to take risks in order to move forward — I feel very passionately about that. I always say that if you feel uncomfortable, then you know you’re doing something right. I think bigger, move faster, blow minds, get shit done and innovate — plus any other cliché that comes to mind.

I’ll be happy to meet new people so don’t hesitate to send me an email at johnie@hjelm.im if you want to talk about design, music, entrepreneurship, personal development or if you just want to say hello.

what I can do for you

how can a crip do all this?

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all formula for success. From startups just finding their feet, to established companies with decades of brand history. Each assignment is unique, and should be measured against an individual set of objectives. I see designing as walking through 'fog'. Your starting point is the start of a project. Steps should be made to discover the path. At the end of the path is your goal. The path you take depends on the choices you make and conclusions you draw. You never know what your destination is. But I definitely want to reach it every time. I want to be creative — both when working with user interfaces and code. I want to create things which have value for people and work with lasting products, may it be in Photoshop, Sublime Text, Terminal, Web Inspector, or any other tool I use on a day-to-day basis.

You had one job, crip.
